Evidence suggesting that humans may have evolved adaptive traits for GANGBANGS

The traditional narrative in evolutionary psychology portrays men as effective sperm delivery vehicles, driven to mate with as many women as possible in attempt to pass on their genes to as many offspring as possible. Women on the other hand are portrayed as naturally monogamous beings who seek an impressive mate for life, one that can give them healthy babies and provide them with resources. 

In this story women are essentially gold diggers who only have sex for good sperm and good resources. As my favourite quote from Sex at Dawn plainly puts it; “Darwin says your mother’s a whore”.

The thing is whilst there are likely significant gender differences in mating strategy, this narrative falls a bit short of our observable reality.  Humans have all sorts of different desires and preferences when it comes to sex and relationships.  And if we examine a little deeper while still keeping with an evolutionary perspective, it turns out there are indeed things that appear to contradict the assumptions of the standard evolutionary narrative.

Specifically for this article, we’re going to look at some of the indications that humans have evolved traits that could suggest women are not as naturally monogamous as assumed.  In fact some things suggest they’re even sluttier than men.

 

Remember this is all theory and speculation, but it’s interesting and important to consider all factors.  And with human sexuality it’s extra important that you look at absolutely everything in order to challenge our existing false and messy assumptions.   

With this in mind, the combination of the five factors listed below implies our ancestors possibly enjoyed an evolved adaptability to a particular mating strategy.  That strategy is the ‘gangbang’: one woman (or at least proportionately few) and multiple men.

 

1 The Refractory Period

Following orgasm and ejaculation there is a recovery phase, known as the post ejaculatory refractory time, in which it is physiologically impossible for a man to maintain his erection and/or have additional orgasms.

In general women appear to not experience a refractory period after orgasm, and rather are able to continue experiencing arousal immediately after orgasm.

It should be noted however that women might experience a period after orgasm in which further stimulation is not pleasurable.

 

2 Multiple Orgasms

As women don’t tend to need much of a recovery phase after orgasm, they are able to experience multiple orgasms and/or repeated orgasms in one sexual encounter

For men the prospect of more than one orgasm in a sexual encounter is quite rare.

 

3 Time Until Orgasm

“The gender disparity in these orgasm related attributes allows a woman to potentially have sex with multiple men over a relatively short period of time, allowing each of them to ejaculate once.”

The average time that it takes women to orgasm during penetrative sexual intercourse is not well estimated.  It’s confused by the fact that most women do not orgasm from penetration alone and require sufficient clitoral stimulation.  However, I’ve seen the average time found in studies as anywhere between 10 and 40 minutes.

Meanwhile for men the average length of time from insertion to ejaculation is estimated at between 2-6 minutes. 

These gender differences in refractory period, capacity for multiple orgasms and the length of time it takes to reach orgasm are compatible with the conditions and requirements of a gangbang scenario.  The gender disparity in these orgasm related attributes allows a woman to potentially have sex with multiple men over a relatively short period of time, allowing each of them to ejaculate once.

Meanwhile, the woman can enjoy a longer more sustained pleasurable experience with multiple partners, hopefully filled with multiple orgasms.

 

4 Loud Moaning

It appears that as with many other female primates, women vocalise more during sexual activity and orgasm than men do.

“In the context of our potential ancestral gangbangs, females characteristically loud moaning would be a great way to attract more dicks to the party.”

There are a number of theories as to why this gender difference exists, one being that it’s simply to express sexual pleasure and excite the male partner bringing him closer to ejaculation.  But there is also an idea that female sexual vocalisations serve as a ‘copulation call’, signalling to any nearby males that there is a horny receptive woman around.  In the context of our potential ancestral gangbangs, females characteristically loud moaning would be a great way to attract more dicks to the party.  

 

5 Dick Shape

The coronal ridge is the rim of the penis where the shaft meets the head, and among the great apes it’s unique to only human males.

While it’s true that men can make great sperm delivery vehicles, the human penis is more versatile than given credit for and is also a very effective semen removal tool.

“Why penises would have evolved a semen removal mechanism leads us to only one assumption; that vaginas are expected to have a prior load dropped in them before the introduction of a next penis.”

While other features of the penis also assist with semen removal, it is the coronal ridge in particular that is just so shaped so it can dislodge and remove existing sperm in the female reproductive tract.  

Why penises would have evolved a semen removal mechanism leads us to only one assumption; that vaginas are expected to have a prior load dropped in them before the introduction of a next penis which has a goal of removing some of the previous load before depositing a his one, and so on.  THUS fitting with the gangbang hypothesis.

Gang Bang Porn 

Simply the existence of gangbang porn implies that at least some of us are getting off on it, and it’s immense popularity as a porn genre suggests that more than some of us are, further indicating an evolved human sexual response to GANGBANGS.

So that’s it for this little exploration of evidence suggesting we are built for gangbangs.  Of course the result of ancestral gangbangs would be women falling pregnant and no one being sure who the father was.  This again goes against our current understanding of human evolution, as we believe that paternity certainty plays a huge role in our mating behaviours.  However, conceiving from a gangbang could fit with a societal organisation in which paternity certainty is unimportant and child rearing is a community-based effort in which all the males share responsibility.

I hope you look at this theory and the bits of evidence given, and draw from it only that human sexuality is one big grey area, the study of which is in it’s infancy, with so much interesting stuff left to examine and discover.
